REAL LIFE: ‘ Why I am walking across Britain for a more diverse church‘ – Emma Fowle
Daud Irfan is the first ever Methodist youth president from an Asian background. Daud’s family fled persecution in Pakistan when he was young, and he grew up in an Urdu/Hindi speaking church in Wales that was started by his father. This month, he and his father, Rev John Irfan, are walking 150 miles from their home circuit in Cardiff to Wesley’s Chapel in London to raise awareness of the need for more diverse leadership in the Church.
RESURRECTION HOPE – Rachael Newham
Rachael’s latest book, And Yet, follows the liturgical seasons and explores how each celebration is “preceded by a time of lament and reflection”. In this article, she expands on the Lent (lamenting) and Easter (hoping) sections of the book, focusing on Jesus’ post-resurrection meetings with Mary, Cleopas and Thomas and pointing to the hope found in his resurrection. Embracing the whole rhythm of the church year enables us to practice our hope through our weeping and rejoicing
HAS COVID PUSHED CHURCH LEADERS TO THE EDGE OF BURNOUT? - Megan Cornwell
According to a recent survey, as many as 38% of US pastors are considering leaving ministry because of burnout. In the UK, 42% of Church of England clergy say their mental health has deteriorated since the start of the pandemic. In this feature, Megan Cornwell speaks with church leaders pushed to the edge by Covid and those working with them to restore their health and wellbeing. As restrictions ease and we move into a new phase of the pandemic, she asks: how can we, the body, help our struggling leaders
THE PRODIGAL SON: WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? – Alastair Forman
Ever wondered what happened after the party finishes in Jesus’ most famous parable? Once welcomed back into the family, does the younger brother stay on the straight and narrow, or do the temptations that once led him astray distract him once again? Does he feel guilt or shame over his actions and, if so, how does he get over this? So many times, as Christians, we accept God’s outrageous gift of grace and forgiveness, only to be swallowed up in shame or distracted by sin again. Alastair Foreman takes a novel look at what comes next in the story of the prodigal son, and the lessons we can all learn from it.

Nothing could possibly matter more than learning to discern the authentic voice of God, but few things in life are more susceptible to delusion, deception and downright abuse. In this simple guide, the ‘bewildered founder’ of 24-7 prayer explains how we can get it right.
