Joseph's Boy, The Young Testament, by L R Hay
Joseph's Boy is the first of The Young Testament, a fun, accessible series of full-length books on the Jesus story, with the children as the main characters. They can be read out of order or on their own, but together they overlap to form one big story world of events at the time of Jesus.
Joseph's Boy takes us through the whole story of Christmas and beyond - from the Angel Gabriel visiting Zechariah, to twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple - using the literary device of James as the older step-brother of Jesus. Jam-packed with historical, cultural and Biblical detail, this is Christmas as you've never experienced it before!
The Young Testament is a fun, accessible series of full-length books covering the whole, breathtaking sweep of the Jesus story and beyond for 8-12s, all from the perspective of the children and young people.
Overlapping and weaving together into one story world, each book has a different child as the main character - until the fifth, where we will follow them and their friends into young adulthood. Joseph's Boy covers the birth and childhood of Jesus and his cousin John, with apprentice carpenter/wannabe prince little Jamie as our engaging yet huffy young hero.
